When Neiman Marcus shows the Akris spring/summer 2015 ready to wear collection on a make shift runway at the Phoenix Art Museum, it’s nothing less than a prelude to a pARTy.  This year the luxury retailer showed the designer collection at the Phoenix Art Museum’s annual benefit gala, which was the first time a fashion show was presented at the event.

Guests were dressed to the nines for this black tie affair and didn’t let the rainy day weather curb their style.  Prior to the show guests mingled in the Andy Warhol exhibit, sipped champagne, and noshed on hors-d’oeuvres.  The fashion choices ranged from elegance (a floor length teal gown accessorised with a gorgeous Fendi baguette bag), to those who supported Warhol (Campbell’s Soup ties were in full force).

Although I cannot confirm what happened at the pARTy, as I’m a working girl not a high roller (tickets were a pretty penny), I can vouch for the fashion. Akris is a family run design house based out of Switzerland.  Currently two brothers Albert Kriemler, head of design, and Peter Kriemler, head of finances, are running the show.  Neiman Marcus pulled looks from Albert’s spring/summer 2015 ready to wear collection, which showcased a clean minimal color palette and design aesthetic.

It was a beautiful show enjoyed by all (to include the Governors muscly security guard), and hopefully a show of fashion will become a static affair to the Phoenix Art Museums pARTy each year.  In the meantime I’ll be supporting the look of Albert’s Akris spring/summer 2015 ready to wear collection by rocking visors, cutouts, and perforated fashion.

Last night a costume party ensued at the Phoenix Art Museum as guests paid tribute to their favorite Hollywood characters.  Attendees were able to tour the museum’s incredible costume and red carpet exhibits, enjoy candy with cocktails, and dance the night away.  My costume was inspired by Maverick AKA Tom Cruise in Top Gun.  I styled a flight outfit with lug sole boots, knee-high socks, a black and gold belt, a black leather cap, and Top Gun approved aviators.

The Phoenix Art Museum Hollywood Costume Exhibit is on display until July 6, 2014.  It showcases more than one-hundred iconic costumes in a three-part journey with a backstage feel.  If you’re a fan of the movies you’ll be a huge fan of this exhibit.

As a fashion girl I have to say the Phoenix Art Museum Hollywood Red Carpet Exhibit is where my heart is.  The looks will be in town until July 27th, 2014, and as a lover of the Oscar red carpet it was amazing to see the gowns and dresses not on television or in a magazine, but up close and personal.

This dress was worn by Cate Blanchett at the 77th Academy Awards where she took home the Oscar for best supporting actress in the Aviator. Valentino extended an invitation to design her dress for the big night as he’d always wanted to dress Katherine Hepburn – the character Cate portrayed in the movie.

This gown was worn by Jennifer Lawrence at the 84th Academy Awards after being nominated for best actress in Winter’s Bone.  With only three seams and no darts Costa kept it simple for a red look that would challenge the carpet and make Jennifer Lawrence a household name.

This dress was worn by Jessica Chastain at the 85th Academy Awards after being nominated for best actress in Zero Dark Thirty.  When asked about her dress she said, “As a little girl I always dreamed about my Oscar dress.  I love fashion that celebrates a woman’s body, and that maybe is a throwback to the glamour of Old Hollywood.”

This dress was worn by Amy Adams at the 85th Academy Awards after being nominated for best supporting actress in The Master.  Amy collaborated with Oscar and he created the design after she provided him with a black and white photograph for inspiration.  This dress is truly a beauty and my personal favorite of the red carpet exhibit.

AZ Picnic Style

Set by AZ Style Girl

I created this set during the summer, but it was just too damn hot to talk about picnicking.  Now is the perfect time to take a day trip and enjoy some of the beautiful Arizona scenery.

Yes, we are slammed by sweltering temperatures several months of the year, but when the thermometer drops we are lucky enough to utilize a majority of our clothing and continue making it work even though the season has changed.  I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to be putting on my chunky knit sweaters or trench coats anytime soon.  Have you seen the 10 day forecast?

In this set I was inspired by tribal print and geometric designs.  Although many have turned their cheeks on the gladiator sandal I continue to embrace them.  I would rock every piece of this look right now as we enjoy numbers in the 80’s.  So style your outfit, stuff your basket, and go enjoy this perfect Arizona weather before it’s too late.
